Recently, a team led by Li Xianfeng and Zhang Huamin, researchers at the Energy Storage Technology Research Department of the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, published a review article entitled Advanced Materials for Zinc-Based Flow Battery: Development and Challenge.
Energy storage technology is a key core technology of distributed energy systems. The zinc-based flow battery system with metal zinc as the negative electrode has the advantages of low cost and high energy density, and has received increasing attention. At present, zinc-based flow batteries have developed rapidly, and there are many types, including zinc-halogen (bromine, iodine) flow batteries, zinc-nickel single flow batteries, zinc-iron flow batteries, etc. This review summarizes the development status and challenges of zinc-based flow batteries in detail, highlighting the latest developments of key materials for zinc-based flow batteries, including electrodes, ion-conducting membranes, and electrolyte solutions, as well as their performance on zinc-based flow batteries Impact, and prospects for the future development direction of zinc-based flow batteries.
In recent years, the research team in the field of high-performance, low-cost zinc-based flow battery systems, including zinc-iron flow batteries (Nat. Commun., 2018; Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 2017), zinc bromide Flow battery (Adv. Mater., 2017; Nano Energy, 2018; Nano Energy, 2016), zinc iodine flow battery (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 2018; Energy Environ.
