According to the Prospective Industry Research Institute's "China Plastic Packaging Industry Production and Sales Demand and Investment Forecast Analysis Report", plastic packaging materials account for more than 30% of all types of packaging materials, second only to paper products. At present, the amount of plastics used in food packaging materials in China has exceeded 50% of the total amount of food packaging materials, ranking first among various packaging materials.

China's express packaging mainly includes seven categories of express waybills, woven bags, plastic bags, envelopes, packing boxes, tapes and internal fillings. Among them, the largest consumption is the waybill, woven bags and plastic bags; the most serious pollution is plastic bags and tape.

Taking tape as an example, its main raw material is polyvinyl chloride, which is commonly known as PVC. However, it takes at least 100 years for the discarded tape to decompose naturally in the soil. So far, no viable environmentally friendly materials can be substituted.

Industry insiders suggest that, in the premise of meeting the safety of express delivery items, it should be called for the express packaging to be recycled as soon as possible, so that recyclable substitutes gradually replace non-degradable packaging materials.

The application of biodegradable materials in packaging has been increasingly praised and concerned. In recent years, the demand for biodegradable materials in Europe and the United States has maintained a rapid growth. The development of the industry has reached a critical period. With the enhancement of safety awareness and the improvement of environmental protection standards, consumers are paying more and more attention to the health and safety performance of plastic packaging.
