Shaping and planing tool

A tool with a cutting portion for planing.

Planers can be divided into slitting, crosscutting, grooving, cutting and forming planers depending on the application. The structure of the planer is basically similar to that of a turning tool, but the planer is interrupted when it is working and subjected to impact load. Therefore, under the same cutting cross-section, the cross-section of the shank is 1.25 to 1.5 times larger than that of the turning tool, and a larger negative-blade inclination (-10° to -20°) is used to improve the impact resistance of the cutting edge. In order to avoid the bending deformation of the planer arbor under the action of the cutting force, so that the cutting edge enters the workpiece, an elbow planer is usually used. In heavy machinery manufacturing, welding-mechanical clamping planers are often used, that is, the blades are welded to the small blades, and then clamped on the arbor to facilitate the welding, sharpening and loading and unloading of the tools. When planing a large plane, a hobbing planer can be used, and the cutting portion thereof is a bowl-shaped cutter head. The circular cutting edge continuously rotates under the action of the cutting force, so the tool wears uniformly and has a long life.
