Shaanxi Normal University has a flexible perovskite solar cell with an efficiency of 16.09%

The reporter recently learned that Prof. Liu Shengzhong and Dr. Yang Dong from Shaanxi Normal University have used solid-state ionic liquids as electron transport materials to produce flexible perovskite solar cells with an efficiency of 16.09%, which has exceeded the world’s highest level of previous perovskite solar cells. Efficiency; related results are published in the Journal of Advanced Materials.

“The large number of silicon solar cells currently on the market cannot be made into flexible devices, and it is difficult to use large-scale applications because of their high price.” Yang Dong introduced. The perovskite material recently developed by Liu Shengzhong’s team has a large light absorption coefficient. By preparing extremely thin films, it can absorb and use sunlight. In addition, the perovskite film is excellent in mechanical properties, so it can be used to produce high-efficiency flexible solar cells.

With no prior work experience, Liu Shengzhong's team must start from scratch. In order to find suitable low-temperature processable materials, they spent a lot of time and did a lot of work from theoretical analysis to feasibility testing in experiments. Yang Dong said: "Perovskite solar cells are not only highly efficient, but also can be made into flexible devices. In the near future, automotive glass, roofs, people's backpacks, clothes, ships, satellites, etc., can be made into flexible solar cells. Green energy will be everywhere!"
