Three stages of fire in insulation materials

There are many places in China every year due to fires in insulation materials. For example, on October 9, 2008, a fire broke out in the Harbin “360°” Gemini Building under construction. In 2009, the CCTV fire, on November 15, 2010, Shanghai Jiaoyao Road, Yuyao Road, a 28-story residential building under construction of the outer wall insulation layer caught fire, causing 58 people to die. On February 3, 2011, a fire broke out in the Wanxin Building, known as the “Shenyang's tallest building”, and the fire lasted for 10 hours.

Through the above cases, we learned that many insulation materials are flammable materials, and the exterior wall insulation materials of buildings are the weakest link to prevent fires. The fires of external wall insulation materials are mainly concentrated in three stages. First, insulation materials are on the construction site. In the stage of stacking, the second is the stage of insulation on the wall, and the third is the construction of the insulation system. In the second and third stages, there is no fire protection layer between the surface of the insulation material or the insulation material, which is a critical period of fire.

Insulation materials are mainly divided into three categories: First, thermoplastic insulation materials, now the application is most EPS thin plastering exterior insulation system, followed by XPS thin plastering exterior insulation system, and then net pouring non-net cast-in-place system, Composite insulation board system; Second, thermosetting insulation material, polyurethane on-site foaming system, phenolic board; third, inorganic insulation material: insulation cotton rock wool exterior wall insulation material. These fire performances are not the same.

Combine the four universities of architecture science, materials science, fire science and environmental science. Deviation from the four university departments has a one-sidedness and limitations. To do a good job in the fire protection of external wall insulation, you need to do the following:

1. Strictly implement the fire protection system

2. Choose a thermal insulation system and choose a quality insulation material.

3. Take preventive measures for each stage of the installation of the insulation system

4. After the insulation material is made into the external wall insulation system, make proper use of the insulation system and prevent the occurrence of fire.

The extensive use of building exterior insulation materials makes the building fire prevention problem both consider the fire inside the building and the external fire protection of the building. Only by carefully drawing lessons from relevant domestic fire accidents, recognizing the root causes of fires caused by external wall insulation materials, and adopting effective and effective safety measures, the city's fire safety can only have a foundation, and people's lives and property safety can be guaranteed.
