In the safety of car vehicles, screws are often the first parts to be affected by corrosion. In order to maintain fastener production activities and long-lasting coatings, many European local manufacturers decided to work together on a development plan called Innovative Zinc Alloy Coating (IZAC). The program is led by LISI AUTOMOTIVE and participating companies include Coventya, Zindel/Galvanoplast, LISI AEROSPACE and Safran.
It is reported that the main purpose of the plan is to lead the development of new fastening components and mechanical parts anti-corrosion protective coatings, replacing zinc-nickel coatings. According to the development results of the program, after testing many chemical compounds, a new coating for automotive and aerospace has been developed and is ready for market. This zinc-iron coating has a large amount of iron, but has a low-chromium conversion coating.
Most of the IZAC program participants are university researchers, coating application experts, fasteners and car manufacturers. This research project is also recognized and supported by European Regional Development Fund units.
