Japan JTEKT developed a roller rocker bearing with less damage to the cam

Figure 1: "ROCKER ROLLER"
Japan's JTEKT announced that it has developed a low-torque roller rocker bearing "ROCKER ROLLER" that reduces cam wear and damage. This time, the special drum technology "TETORA TEKT", which optimizes the parameters of the drum, has been developed to reduce the surface roughness and only increase the hardness of the outermost layer, thereby reducing the damage to the cam and reducing the torque.
In recent years, in order to improve fuel consumption, there has been a tendency for the engine oil to have a low viscosity. When a low viscosity oil is used, the outer ring surface of the roller rocker bearing that is in contact with the cam is required to have a certain hardness. Therefore, in the past, it is necessary to perform a shot blasting process for improving the fatigue strength of the surface layer, and since the surface of the shot blasting surface is rough, there is also a barreling step of polishing the surface.
The TETORA TEKT technology eliminates the shot peening process and reduces the surface roughness while reducing the surface roughness. In the company's test, the cam wear was reduced to less than half compared to the previous product. As a result, the torque is reduced by a maximum of 12% and the cost is reduced by 5%.
