Research on Universal Fixture CAD System Based on Solid Modeling Technology

With the development of CAD/CAPP/CAM technology, the traditional fixture design method can not meet the flexible and fast requirements of modern manufacturing systems. Computer-aided fixture design (fixture CAD) was created to accommodate this requirement. On the one hand, the fixture CAD overcomes the shortcomings of the traditional fixture design, reduces the labor intensity of the designer, and improves the quality of the fixture design: on the other hand, the fixture information system based on the computer aided fixture design also constitutes a message inheritance in CIMS. MDT (AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop) is a general-purpose 3D mechanical CAD platform developed on the basis of AutoCAD. It mainly includes mechanical CAD parametric feature modeling, surface modeling and assembly modeling. MDT has good secondary development tools and programming interfaces. This paper introduces the functional module of the fixture CAD system based on the MDT three-dimensional software platform developed by the author using the solid modeling technology and the design method of the fixture component library.

1 fixture CAD system structure design

The general fixture CAD system is mainly composed of two parts: one part is the application program for the fixture design service, which exists in the form of the library and the graphics library respectively: the other part is the design workflow of the fixture. As shown in Figure 1. 1 Application: The library is mainly used to store various programs required for fixture design, including designing calculation programs, reading database programs, and various interface programs. The database is used to store various parameters, tables, and data files generated during the design of the fixture design. The main function of the database is to provide various data for the design process, various manuals and standards to be searched. 2 Workflow: Workflow of interactive 3D CAD system: start → input part information → select positioning method and positioning part → select guiding method and guiding part → select clamping method and clamping part → determine other components and clip specific → enter MDT three-dimensional system assembly assembly diagram → return to the main system → end.

2 Functional modules of the fixture CAD system

The functional modules of the universal fixture CAD system include modules for part information input, process information input, and interactive fixture design. as shown in picture 2.

Part information input module

In this module, a certain number of typical parts are stored in the computer for the user to select. If there is a required part, the user can directly enter the CAD environment, draw a sketch of the part, and save it as a block, then mark the corresponding size information in the figure, and finally put it into the corresponding part. Process information input module

Typical parts in the part graphics library, the corresponding process has been deposited into it. The designer can obtain the process information by reading the process menu and input it into the system to obtain the process information of the process. Including process dimensions, tolerances, technical requirements, positioning surfaces and clamping points.

Fixture structure design module

The basic function of the interactive fixture structure design module is to design the fixture structure interactively, and finally generate a three-dimensional fixture assembly drawing. It includes five parts: positioning device design, clamping device design, guiding device design, clip design and assembly drawing design. The parts are independent of each other in form, but are interrelated between the internal parameters, thus forming an independent and interconnected unity.
