The solution to the phenomenon of freezing and thawing natural stone

The freezing and thawing of natural stone mainly occurs in places where the weather is relatively cold near the north. When the natural stone capillary pores absorb enough water, once the temperature drops below 0 °C, the water in the natural stone begins to freeze and the volume expands. When the expansion force of the ice block is greater than the structural strength of the natural stone, the natural stone will be fragmented. This is the stone / freeze-thaw phenomenon.

First, the reason for the formation of stone / freeze-thaw

Generally speaking, substances are subject to the law of "thermal expansion and contraction", and water is just the opposite. The density of water is greatest at 4 ° C, and water molecules operate independently in fluidity. The water is cooled from 4 ° C to 0 ° C. The water molecules in the ice are arranged in a three-dimensional pattern in an unusually loose form. This structure actually leaves a lot of "voids" and the density is reduced. Experiments have shown that when 1 cubic meter of water is formed into ice, its volume will increase to 1.11 cubic meters. Therefore, when the water enters the natural stone/pores or gaps, it will freeze and freeze, and the volume will increase, thereby expanding the pores or gaps of the natural stone. Then, the natural stone/inhalation of more water, the pores or gaps are further swollen, Such a vicious cycle eventually led to the fragmentation of natural stone.

Second, the prevention of stone / freeze-thaw

Since the main factor of stone/freeze-melting is water, we can prevent the freezing and thawing of stone by simply preventing water from entering the natural stone. Therefore, we only need to use natural stone curing agent to protect the natural stone.
