China will build the first photodetector R&D platform [Full Text]

During the airshow, reporters learned that AVIC Avionics Systems and the University of Electronic Science and Technology will jointly invest 70 million yuan to jointly build a "photoelectric detection integrated device and application laboratory," and build the nation's first state-of-the-art photodetector R&D platform.

According to the agreement, AVIC Luoyang electro-optical equipment researched a total investment of 35 million yuan in cash to build an uncooled infrared detector package test line, and merged with the 6-inch MEMS processing line already established by the University of Electronic Science and Technology. This will become the first state-of-the-art photodetector R&D platform for MEMS design, MEMS processing, device packaging and testing. The platform will have an annual production capacity of 3,000 uncooled infrared detectors. Through 10-15 years of efforts, it will become a world-class supplier of photoelectric detectors with a business scale of 10 billion yuan.

It is understood that a photodetector is a photodetector made using the photoconductive effect of semiconductor materials. The so-called photoconductive effect refers to a physical phenomenon in which the conductivity of the irradiated material changes due to radiation. Photoconductive detectors have a wide range of uses in various fields of military and national economy.

Zhang Xinguo, deputy general manager of China National Aviation Industry Corporation, stated that the development and production of photodetectors is a core value of the optoelectronics industry. This cooperation will fundamentally break the industrial monopoly of foreign companies and accelerate the process of independent innovation of the core devices of China's optoelectronics industry. It has an important strategic significance; through the school-enterprise innovation, it will fully realize the extension of the industrial chain and value chain of the optoelectronic industry in China.
